What to Do when Car Breaks Down in the City of Hutchins, TX; Turn on Emergency Hazard Lights & More

When your vehicle fails, you may be in a parking lot or out on a less busy road. However, what if you break down in the middle of the road, while at a light, or on the highway? Breaking down in a busy city can make the situation much worse. Breaking down in the middle of a busy street will call for a different situation than when no one is around or if you are in a parking lot. Citywide Towing Service will share how to best handle a mid-city breakdown. Before we begin it is important to always remain calm even in a mid-city break down. You can better evaluate the situation and make better decisions when you are calm. With that in mind, following are some tips when dealing with a breakdown in the middle of busy city traffic.

Is Your Car Blocking the Road & Impeding Traffic?

When a breakdown occurs without warning you may be in the middle of the road and not knowing what to do. If possible, it is ideal to get your vehicle off of the road. However, if you are in the middle lane and you are suddenly broken down, you may be unable to get off the side of the road. When you are unable to move your vehicle and you are in busy traffic, you will first want to turn on your emergency lights. Then you will want to contact the non-emergency police number to come to your location. They can help cut off traffic and get your vehicle off the side of the road. If necessary you may want to call your auto wrecker or towing service to come to your location as well and have your vehicle towed. If you’re lucky, a roadside emergency service vehicle may see you and provide you with some aid moving your vehicle off of the road. While you wait, stay inside your vehicle and make sure to keep your seat belt on and your emergency lights flashing. Note: If it is safe to do so and you are able to get some help, you can push your vehicle off of the road, but not in busy traffic.

Do Not Direct Traffic when Broken Down

When you have a broken down vehicle, you may feel responsible for traffic and want to help direct traffic around your vehicle. Directing traffic on a busy street is not a good idea. Police rely on bright flashing lights to get the attention of other drivers on the road. You do not have enough lights or other methods to get the attention of other drivers and a person can be a difficult thing to see. You can potentially get hit by another vehicle. It is much safer for you to stay in your vehicle with your emergency lights on and wait for emergency roadside assistance or police to come and help you.
