It can never be predicted when your vehicle will break down. That is why it is best to be prepared. Especially here in Texas with our high humidity and extreme temperatures you will always want to be prepared for the worst. Citywide Towing has put together a list of items you will want to include in your emergency car suvival kit. You should always keep these things in your vehicle at all times in the event an unforeseen vehicle failure occurs.
1. Keep Cell Phone Charger in Car
In this day and age we are never without our cell phones. However it seems in the worst of times your batteries are dying or have died. That is why you should keep a spare phone charger in your emergency car kit. As you upgrade your phone make sure you have the correct charger. This way you can contact roadside assistance or get help when needed.
2. Car First Aid Kit Requirements
You will want a well assembled first aid kit including adhesive tape, gauze pads, antiseptic wipe or cream, and aspirin. Of course you should also have the other standard items such as band aids and such. In the event there is an injury, you are somewhat prepared.
3. Where to Put Fire Extinguishers in Car
It is wise to have two portable fire extinguishers on hand. One should have a class B rating which is approved to extinguish fires from gasoline and diesel fuel. The other should have a class C rating which is approved to extinguish fires caused from electrical components and batteries. This can prove most useful in the event a fire occurs within or near your vehicle.
4. Have Tire Equipment in Car
More often than not, many problems seem to occur with your tires. That is why you should always keep a tire gauge, foam tire sealant and a portable tire compressor. You might find these few basic tools can get you off the side of the road more often.
5. Car Jumper Cables
Heat kills batteries and especially older batteries. That is why it is smart to keep a pair of jumper cables with you in the event your battery needs to be jumped.
6. Car Survival Food & Water
You may be left on the side of the road for quite sometime while you wait for help. Especially if you have little ones in the car, and most especially during the summer time, you should keep a good size water bottle. For babies, you should have some formula on hand. Nonperishable snacks and food are also great to help keep your little ones distracted and fed. If you’re going on a car trip, you may want to pack extra food and water just to be safe.
7. Other Items to Keep in Emergency Car Kit
Finally when you’re finishing up your emergency kit, also have the following items which can prove to be a life saver. To start, keep a flashlight and extra batteries, gloves, and cleaning rags. Never underestimate the power of duct tape. Also include tow straps, multipurpose tools, a portable shovel and cat litter which works great to help give tire traction if you are stuck. Additionally you may want extra blankets and a rain poncho in the event there is bad weather.
