You will also want to keep a pair of work gloves to use when you need to work on your car. Once you have your jumper cables out you will need another car to help you jumpstart your car. Next you will need to park the cars close enough to each other for the jumper cables to reach both car batteries. Turn off the vehicle with the good battery. Then connect the jumper cables to the car with the dead battery. You will connect the red positive jumper cable to the red positive post. Then connect the other red positive jumper cable to the car with the charged battery. Next connect the black negative jumper cable first to the car with the charged battery and then to the car with the dead battery. Then you are ready to start the car with the charged battery. Let it sit and idle for five to ten minutes. Now try starting the car with the dead battery. If the car with the dead battery starts you will want to remove the jumper cables in the opposite order that you put them on.
Test Your Car Battery to See if it is Good
After your battery has been jumpstarted you will want to drive it to your local automotive parts store. They can come and out and test your battery to see if it needs to be replaced or not.
